Recap: Burlesque Surprise Party

Saturday night we embarked on our scheduled adventure to the location of the First Amendment space. Upon arrival we discovered a system of hallways that led us to the basement destination housing the festivities. We then entered a room filled with hep cats and youngsters up to the expected artistic shenanigans. All subdued by the artsmanship that covered the walls like a membrane of creativity. We made way to the common watering hole to discover, in all delight, PBR and various forms of screen-printed paraphernalia. Seeing so many glorious pieces of artwork kept, even us, mesmerized. We put our eyes on a few for the taking but unfortunately left our bank notes at our residence. After we soaked in the culture and near companionship that we could, we made way. As an unfortunate circumstance of our bewilderment, we failed to talk to a few familiar faces (I hope to catch you at the Art Crank Show show this Saturday). We then pushed forth towards our cozy confines, thus concluding our exciting evening journey to and through the Burlesque Surprise party. Many thanks to the following cats and kittens for showing your work and being involved, my apologies if I missed a few. Aaron Horkey, George Thompson, Todd Bratrud, Mike Davis, Wes Winship, Lonny Unitus and Amy Jo Hendrickson

Wanderlust Premiere

This is seriously beyond my comprehension. So sick! Amazing video directed by Encyclopedia Pictura. Check the credit list here. Sorry for the cheesy ad, it’s the only video I could find.

Large Hadron Collider

Some pretty amazing things are happening on the French border involving 7,000 physicists from more than 40 countries. It involves time travel, black holes and recreating the big bang. It should be getting turned on for the first time early this summer. It’s pretty amazing to say the least and luckily there are plenty of people talking about it so you shouldn’t have a hard time finding a ton of super intriguing information on it. I’ve been waiting patiently for this thing to get turned on and change science forever. I can only hope that this might spark close to the same enthusiasm in you.

You can fin info about the organization directing the project, CERN and the LHC, here. Here is an interesting article about a man trying to sue them for endangering the world (kinda funny).

Murat Kurnaz

I’m not really in the mood to discuss this too much, due to my last 2 hours being spent watching and reading about how bad the United States Government is fucking the world up. Make sure to do your research, pay attention and be involved.

The Hookup

Some goodies entered our mailbox today from our good friend Chris. He sent over some tees and hoodies for our enjoyment and holy sweetness are they rad. Check Chris out at his blog / portfolio Changethethought™. We also write an occasional post or two over there as well. Anyway, definitely make it a point to check out his print work — it disgusts me how much talent this man possesses.

Failing to mention…

I forgot to mention this interview from Grain Edit. Mike Davis, one of masterminds behind Burlesque, gets his brain picked.

Burlesque: Surprise Party

Burlesque Show
Tomorrow at First Amendment there will be a hoopin’ and hollerin’ good time, chuck full of music, art, drinks and artsy people. There will be an array of new stickers, t-shirts, and prints from Burlesque, live DJ performances, big screen motion projection work and a special appearance from a really rad secret Minneapolis band! Ive heard that the Burlesque events can be crazy and they only get bigger and better. But hey, don’t take my word for it, see it for yourselves. First Amendment is located on Stinson & Broadway in basement rooms A & B. Show starts at 7PM and goes until 10PM.

Listening To: Dabrye

Dabrye
I’ve been putting my ears up against this for a while now, but had to share it. It’s a sort of mix of super minimalist beats stacked with layers of intelligent samples and clean production. Very good for designing in my opinion. It’s almost like Saturday morning cartoons minus the cat and mouse with a warm coffee in hand, standing in your doorway, plotting diabolical schemes. Oh if you could only see the glimmer in my eye…

Super Cool Munny

Custom Munny by Jaime Kopke
I recently received an email from Jaime over at Designklub. Jaime not only runs and writes on a blog, she is apparently a sneaky ninja custom Munny maker. This one happens to be made out of porcelain! Looks like an antique China piece. Make sure to swing on by her blog and say yo!

ffffound

My ffffound account
So after reading the Changethethought™ blog today, I realized I hadn’t visited my ffffound account in a while. I love ffffound, it’s great. It’s actually so great that whenever I go there I seem to spend a couple hours trailing around looking for awesome new pics and grand sources of additional inspiration. If you ever have a few hours to burn, check it out. There is a really cool RSS feed for it too.

Breakfast

Video I stumbled across for Le le’s song Breakfast. It’s a dope music video featuring Piet Parra’s illustrations. Parra is also the man behind the super steezy urban clothing line Rockwell. As I’m sure some you remember Fecal Face visited him at the studio a while back. Check out that interview here.

Super Fantastic Watch

This isn’t really much of a post, but I just had to share this watch. It’s a throw back to the old loader icon. I think its pretty awesome and would no doubt get one if I had the excess loot just sitting around. They are pretty inexpensive and can be picked up at the MoMA website if you have an interest. Pretty nifty for sure. You can view the original post on Fubiz.

Dwitt @ Java J’s

Dwitt Samples
As Celeste and I attempt to get caught up in the local art scene, we run across all sorts of new and interesting artists. Last night we caught wind of a local by the name of Dwitt. I had heard of this fellow once or twice before on a few of the design studio’s blogs. Some interesting stories had surfaced about a drawing that was done with a bone dipped in his own blood or something like that, so by no means was I going to miss a show of his. The place he was showing was called Java J’s, sort of a bar / coffee spot. An interesting group of people make this place regular. While there, we saw maybe ten different cops, some pseudo Rock-a-billy kids, some “Chads” (douches of the quasi fraternal type) and Dwitt himself. The setting was very casual and comfy, not too quiet and not too loud. The wifi and a latte the size of a bowl of Cheerios kept us static for a couple hours. We took a peek at some of the work, gathered in the coming and goings of the crowd and made our way back to the lair. As you can see from the fairly bad iPhone photos up top, Dwitt has some pretty good work. I’ll make sure to keep and eye and an ear open for his next display of artistic showmanship.
