Come down to Mod Livin’ on Saturday night and join us for a fashion show… give hi-fives and help us say farewell to The Fabric Lab’s store front. My wife has been busting her pregnant ass putting the show together, collaborating with Jill of Mod Livin’ and the Rhino Staging crew to set-up the space. The runway weaves through the store and will incorporate pieces & permanent fixtures found within Mod Livin’, a mid century modern/modern furniture store on East Colfax. The show will start at 7pm and feature 20 Denver based designers that we’ve been fortunate enough to work with over the past 6 years.
Mod Livin’ : Saturday : 7-10 PM : 5327 East Colfax Avenue, Denver
The Fabric Lab store front on East Colfax will remain open for the rest of the year, and Big Hairy Monster will take over the space at the beginning of 2010. The Fabric Lab will continue to organize and promote events in and around Denver, and will take the shape of pop-up boutiques across the city over 2010. This evolution will allow us to experiment with what we offer and the environment(s) that we set up base within. Ultimately we’ll be able to pair designers with a particular space and concept. The storefront on East Colfax was and will always be a very special place and time of our lives… and has allowed us to cross the paths of so many rad, inspiring, extremely talented people. It has continually re-enforced our love for this city, and fueled our hope that if you invest your energy, talent, & resources into creating change, that change will eventually manifest.
The Bicycle Film Festival is coming to Denver this week, and I’m stoked to participating in the Joyride Art Show, which is part of the festival. I’m pretty geeked out to be included alongside a healthy roster of super rad local/national/international artists. The opening reception for Joyride is this Thursday 7:00 – 11:00PM at Lisa Kowalski Gallery :: 2762 Walnut St.
Swing over to the BFF website to get more info on the festival program, film show times, & other cycle-centric activities throughout the week and across the city.
Skateboards X Art X Fundraising = participation from a slew of mega talented peoples including a couple of your friendly neighborhood BWLT contributors. Cool right. Not cool until you swing by the show and peep it for yourself. More info on the site.

I recently wrapped up a letterpress collaboration with Birks&Birks for The Shoppe Cupcake & Cereal Bar here in Denver. Above are a few snaps of the business card I designed, incorporating The Shoppe’s ID which was also developed by myself a little over a year ago. Many thanks to Brett from Birks&Birks, who provided insight on the medium, he manned the press, and also sourced the Crane lettra 220# paper stock. I’m super stoked on how the blind deboss of the logotype came out on the front… Brett works some mega magic with those gentle hands!!!
Also in progress is a new site for The Shoppe hoping to have it designed, developed, and deployed within month. I’ll try my best to post up progress as it’s made.
It’s up and running… Probably a couple things here and there so don’t piss yourselves if something winks back. I spent far too much time in too small a period to not assume I will make adjustments and add more things. Regardless of my weary ramblings, please take a look and pass it on. Thank you my dear readers…
Another super rad female artist & Denver local by way of New Britain, Connecticut Sandi Calistro will be showing a range of new works this Saturday August 8th at The Shoppe in Denver. I’ve had a few opportunities to check out Sandi’s work in the past… and always leave her shows feeling ultra inspired… I’m hoping to leave this show with piece in hand as well as some much needed inspo!! Come out to The Super Block this Saturday for a mega night of art & other creative pleasantries, Leigh will be showing right next door at The Fabric Lab. Colfax Rockers in full effect!!!
Leigh Viner surfaced out of nowhere for me, I may be a little late, but I’m super stoked to see her work up close… she is a prolific artist & photographer. My wife Tran has booked this Denver local out for a solo show at The Fabric Lab. Opening reception will be Second Saturday August 8th from 7-11PM at 3105 East Colfax. Drop by if you are in the hood.
Zen Ultra Lounge is hosting the Local Issue Release party for 303 Magazine this Friday, July 10th. My wife Tran Styled & Art Directed a few of the photo shoots featured in this months issue & is also producing this Fridays event… Swing through on your way to or from!

My soon to be famous wife (Celeste Prevost aka designisfine) and collaborative creative partner in crime has recently been awarded placement in a new business card book entitled Business Cards 3: Designs on Saying Hello. 272 pages of inspiration and somewhere near 1000 illustrations and designs, the 3rd in the series is just as, if not better than the first two. Make sure to check it out. Hi-five loverpants!
We are pleased and equally excited to welcome our newest collaborator, Geoff Allen, on BWLT! Geoff is originally from San Francisco where he worked with Hybrid Design and built quite an awesome body of work including projects for Nike, Super7, Fifty24SF, Upper Playground and Jeremy Fish among a handful of others. Geoff recently relocated to Denver and is currently working with Ellen Bruss Design where he helps hold down the Denver design community as creative mercenary and visual vigilante. Nice, huh? You can also check out a little more about him on his blog as well as more examples of work on his site.

Please welcome CacheFlowe a.k.a. Justin Gitlin, the newest member of the BWLT family. Justin resides in Denver, Colorado and spends his hours as a maker of creations, as well as other things that should never be mentioned aloud. Justin has many skills including (large list here), cat petting and shoelaces. Needless to say, he will help in adding additional diverse content and creating colloquial commentary concerning all things radtastical. Honestly I have no idea what sort of content he’ll be adding to our wonderful collection, but he is a super smart sir and that counts more than some certainties could ever quantify. (?)
UNTITLED #20(TRIP) at the Denver Art Museum video re-cap courtesy of Vincent Comparetto. A month or so back I was fortunate enough to pull a few screens with Rick Griffith & Matter, John Fellows, Scot LeFavor, Markham Maes, at the UNTITLED #20(TRIP) event. We formed “The Syndicate” and printed our asses off for a few magical hours combining the mystical forces of all our powers! I’m definitely hoping to work with all these talented cats again in one way or another sooner rather than later.
BWLT would like to welcome Chris Henley on-board as our newest editor/contributor. Mr. Henley is a UK based Art Director / Designer / Photographer / Seer of Sideways. After a few weeks of healthy negotiations he has agreed to come on and provide a continuous stream of posts filled with insight, rants & rambles, along with other assorted bursts of creative joy.
Who is Chris Henley? Well he produces work under the name 24exp. His book filled with stunning creative & conceptual executions that wonder in and out of the realms of graphics & photography along with some of what’s in between. His work is firmly grounded in the mantra of part time creator, full time thinker. Chris is a designers designer… just the way we like ‘em!!!
Above all else he is a like minded peer that will provide insight into the ins and outs of creative life in the UK and abroad.

Hailing all of the way from the Yamagata prefecture in Japan, please welcome our newest collaborator, Alex Carter! I’ve known Alex for about 20 years and know a lot of random shit about him, most of which is probably kind of useless in speaking to what sort of content he’ll share with us all. I could go on about his sushi swordmanship, his infatuation with teaching English to small Asian children, his artsy superpowers or even how he has a cobra tattooed on his chest. Most of which are fairly interesting, only some of which are true (I’ll let him explain) and should all lend an interesting perspective to our, somewhat culturally singular point of view on this blog.

In celebration of some of the up and coming changes to the site we would like to introduce some new ultra talented creative people/collaborators to the BecauseWeLikeTo project. This is part of our first phase for the restructuring of the blog and will hopefully aid in expanding the diabolical reach of our menacing world take over scheme. With out further ado, please welcome Annie & Scott!
