Josh Holland – Denver Does Denver
The piece above is Josh Holland‘s interpretation of Denver artist, John Fellows for this weekend’s Denver Does Denver event at Illiterate Gallery. The event showcases bands and artists interpreting the work of other bands and artists. Pretty awesome concept for a collaborative show if you ask me…
For a better description of the piece, check out Josh’s blog and for more info on the event itself, the Denver Does Denver site.

Matt Mignanelli Sneak Peek
Celeste and I took a trip up to Nob Hill this afternoon, to grab a bite with Matt Mignanelli and chat about his show, Transformative Illuminations, opening this Friday at Medicine Agency. We dropped by just in time to see the pieces being unpacked and peek at everything up close, prior to being hung. His definitive use of bright colors and bold geometric shapes sort of had my itchy art eye twitching with visual stimulation. We hung out long enough to meet the Medicine crew and learn a little bit about what they’ve been up to and about their operation as well… we look forward to keeping up them and their work.
After nerding out on the unpacking of the art and spying on the early stages of getting the work hung, we took a walk to find a food spot and rap about living in NYC, the art world and his visit to San Francisco. Needless to say, he’s been working hard at getting ready for the show and is as excited as we are to see it all unfold this Friday.
Meet us there, this Friday for drinks and additional ocular stimulation from 8PM – 11PM.
Matt Mignanelli at Medicine Agency
Matt Mignanelli will be showcasing his latest collection of works entitled “Transformative Illuminations” this Friday at Medicine Agency in San Francisco. The show opens at 8PM and goes until 11.
SKINNER at White Walls Tomorrow Night!!
I can honestly say that I haven’t been this excited for an upcoming show in a long, long time! The more that I read or watch about Skinner, the more intrigued and totally hoodwinked I am, by what to expect. I know it’s gonna be a great show just by the way he talks about his pieces and the terms he uses… so fantastical.
Skinner’s opening reception is this Saturday at White Walls Gallery alongside Ferris Plock at the conjoined Shooting Gallery.
Look Alive Recap
Our unfortunately short visit to Double Punch last night for the opening of “Look Alive” — new work from Michael Sieben, Deth P. Sun, Jon Vermilyea and PARSKID — was definitely worth it. I hadn’t seen any of the artists’ work up close prior to last night or been to Double Punch. It seemed like the show had a pretty good turnout overall, a glorious array of work from some super talented artists, cold cans o beer and a shop full of delightful arty toys and books. Definitely worth a trip back!
Make sure to check out their online shop for additional images of the work and information on what’s still available.
1LOVE: Harlem
Nike is shooting five videos as a lead up to the World Basketball Festival and in celebration of the AF-1. Each of the five episodes will feature a different ambassador from one of the Five Burroughs to talk about their unique experiences growing up and living there. Episode two, takes us to Harlem to talk with Ms. Banks — XL Recordings emcee — about living in Harlem, inspiration and music.
I’m really not into the commercialism of sports, but when it becomes a catalyst to promote, creativity, activity and cultural pluralism, I’m all for it. I think Nike generally does a great job giving back in that way and helps support the things that power life…
For more information on this event and additional media, check out the World Basketball Festival here, for the rest of the upcoming videos, head to the Nike Sportswear Youtube page here.

ARTCRANK DENVER 2010

Background Illustration by Scot Lefavor
Join us in Denver Saturday, September 4th for the Opening of ARTCRANK DENVER 2010. We are putting together a proper little bike poster party with the artwork of 60 Denver artists on display. The show will be hanging for a week following the opening and run in conjunction with BFF Denver!!
We’ve got a few interesting partnerships/collaborations in the works… and will drop more details around the event over the next month leading up to the show… you’ve got plenty of time to work on the perfect pair of cycle legs.
Bordo Bello 2010
I’m excited to announce that part of our crew will be participating in Bordo Bello again this year! The dates have yet to be set for the event itself, but they’ve opened artist registration until the 4th of August and are actively seeking additional participants. They’ve got a ton of event related and sponsorhip information on their site as well as pics from the last few years events on their Facebook page. Make sure to follow Bordo Bello on Twitter for the day to day.
Look Alive @ Double Punch
August 7th, Look Alive opening reception at Double Punch Gallery in San Francisco. With new work from Michael Sieben, Deth P. Sun, Jon Vermilyea and PARSKID. The show starts 7PM and is rumored to go “till late.” Sounds like a great combination to me! See you there, right?!
Skinner
Although it’s not for another month, Skinner‘s show set to open at White Walls Gallery in August, is already getting me all sorts of excited.
His work caught my eye for the first time on a wall near Lower Hater (alongside Doze Green) here in San Francisco. I didn’t even know who it was at first, but I knew it was something I wanted to see more of. There’s nothing more gravitating than razor-toothed Aztec Gods, shooting lasers from their eyes while summoning space goblins and floating above demonoid worshipers playing glyph ridden, death metal solos. That’s the shit I want to see up close; and now that I know he’s got a foot firm in the local art community, I plan on soaking up all I can.
Make sure to mark your calendars for August 14th, and drop by White Walls to put your peepers on Skinner’s work in real life.
The piece above is available for purchase at Zerofriends.

Levi’s Workshop in Mission

Levi’s recently opened a workshop here in the Mission that focuses on screen printing and letterpress for the public. The workshop will also be host to a selection of shows, lectures and of course… workshops to help motivate, inspire and ultimately urge creativity to ooze from your various orifices. They have a full event calendar on the site as well as a stack of examples of things you can look forward to upon your visit.
Celeste and I will be stopping tonight to check out the Rock Paper Book Show. Maybe we’ll see you there!?
