JoyEngine has a great little sneak peek of the Manifest Hope Gallery showing at Andenken in Denver. The show opened to the public today and will run until Wednesday. I’m super jealous of all who reside in proximity to Denver and all the treats the DNC brings with. I wish I could be equally excited for the RNC here in St Paul, but I just can’t seem to think of anything exciting it’ll bring to share…Anyway, swing on over to the JoyEngine blog and take a peek.

Sometimes when you add 2 + 2 together it equals awesome! After spotting a flyer for the upcoming Ravi Zupa show @ Indy Ink, I did a little research to fulfill my intrigue… And to my delight I’ve stumbled upon a pretty inspiring body of work from local talent who has been busy collaborating with the underground hip hop luminaries of the anticon. collective, directing a variety of film projects for them… ranging from short documentary pieces to music videos. Check out Ravi’s search result page on YouTube or swing by his website parts and labor union to check out some more of Mr. Zupa’s work! I’m really digging his Illustration style and choices for subject matter, super dark and jarring! Can’t wait to see what is up on the walls come this Friday!

Friday August 1st @ Indy Ink : 84 South Broadway : Denver, CO : 7PM - 11PM : Get Yer Drank On!

Mike Graves of the EHF collective is one of the most prolific artsists that I know… I can’t keep up with him. Every time I turn around he is either preparing for a show or opening a show! Tonight is just one of those instances… Swing by The 400 tonight to check out his latest offerings in a solo show titled Lucha Libre! Say hello to Randy and Kris of The 400 while you’re there!

Overproof is a small collective of artistic do-gooders here in the Twin Cities. There efforts are aimed at embracing the artistic community and bringing together artists of all sorts in order to reinforce the creative commonality we all seek to share. Whoa! Sounds pretty fuckin’ rad to me. Well now that you know that little snippet, I’ll give you all a time and place to participate. It seems that every Sunday at 8 PM they throw a little get together called Guilty Pleasures. The funness is at Jitters in the NE. Live music and drinks, cool peeps and a nice time. Get on it and don’t say we didn’t give you something to do this weekend.

This coming Monday July 14, Jaime Kopke and Angela Schwab are hosting another Pecha Kucha Night in Denver. Pecha Kucha Night is an opportunity to see, meet, and share work with other designers/creatives with only 20 images in 20 seconds a piece. It should be a blast, so def stop by and check out cool peoples like Scot LeFavor, Lynn Brunning, and The Magnet Mafia. Now all we need is a Pechu Kucha Night here in MPLS.
There may still be an small window of opportunity to become a presenter if you can get all your stuff together by this week. Check guidelines here.

So, I kind of slipped on making sure I got this up in a timely fashion, but I think it’s important to bring mention to it and to share our funtastic experience. The rally was held on the 3rd in St. Paul at the Excel Event Center which holds about 18,000 people. We waited in a 3 hour line and just barely got in at the last minute. At one point, the line was actually over a mile long! Hahah. It all sounds pretty ridiculous, but we figured there was nothing better to do for the rest of the night, and aimed to stick it out no matter how long the wait. According to news sources in the area, there were the 18,000 people inside and another 15,000 outside. Those numbers are estimates, but you can clearly see that a shit ton of people showed up to see this speech. It was completely surreal to see that many people in one spot for something like this. To see someone speak in real life is completely different than on TV. I’m sure that sounds like an expected response, but it’s not anything I’ve really experienced. It actually made me want to get more involved and inspired me to do something (both, the speech and just being there). Here is a good link to check out for line pics and the map of the line.

It looks like there is going to be a huge group show at the Thorp Building tonight. It looks as though there will be art from more than 15 artists. (Sample above is Greg Gossel.) We will most definitely swing by as say something clever, take a few pics, drink a PBR (please be some tasty beverage for my oral delight) say hello to some art and bye to the crowd. Meet us there, we can thumb wrestle. No website for the Thorp Building I know of, so look at the map and drive there like they did in the 80’s.

This Saturday is the first of a quarterly event called Connoisseur here in Minneapolis. Presented by YouWorkForThem and HYPE, Connoisseur is a multi-media event featuring the hottest music, fashion, and art that MPLS has to offer (at least that’s what I’ve been told). Expect performances by DJ Asphalt Haynes along with Micheal Cina, Karl Frankowski, Mike the 2600 King and Benny Lojak. There is also a YouWorkForThem video premiere, visuals by Alpahsuede, and fashion performance by Hyperlush. All this is going down at Suburban World Theater and cost $10 to get in. Pre-sale tickets are available at Robot Love and Cliche.
I just hope we can scratch together enough change to get off our asses and party. Check the sneak peek mix from Cina. Total hotness fo real. Download that ish.
