The Next Chapter

November 19th, 2009

As you may or may not know, one of the foundational elements to the Denver creative community recently closed its doors. For 6 years The Fabric Lab had been throwing fashion related events and art shows while continuously inspiring others to go out and do it for themselves. Their DIY mentality was a driving force for not only Celeste and I but the hundreds of others that would come to each and every show or event.

But alas, this is not the end, but the beginning of the next chapter in Josh & Tran’s creative scurge on the sub-cultural crevices of Denver’s nether-regions. The Shoppe (their cupcake & cereal cafe) is going strong and there are a plethora of other plots, plans and schemes in the works, soon to reveal themselves to the masses.

The Fabric Lab is Dead!

November 12th, 2009

Prototype4x6_1

Come down to Mod Livin’ on Saturday night and join us for a fashion show… give hi-fives and help us say farewell to The Fabric Lab’s store front. My wife has been busting her pregnant ass putting the show together, collaborating with Jill of Mod Livin’ and the Rhino Staging crew to set-up the space. The runway weaves through the store and will incorporate pieces & permanent fixtures found within Mod Livin’, a mid century modern/modern furniture store on East Colfax. The show will start at 7pm and feature 20 Denver based designers that we’ve been fortunate enough to work with over the past 6 years.

Mod Livin’ : Saturday : 7-10 PM : 5327 East Colfax Avenue, Denver

The Fabric Lab store front on East Colfax will remain open for the rest of the year, and Big Hairy Monster will take over the space at the beginning of 2010. The Fabric Lab will continue to organize and promote events in and around Denver, and will take the shape of pop-up boutiques across the city over 2010. This evolution will allow us to experiment with what we offer and the environment(s) that we set up base within. Ultimately we’ll be able to pair designers with a particular space and concept. The storefront on East Colfax was and will always be a very special place and time of our lives… and has allowed us to cross the paths of so many rad, inspiring, extremely talented people. It has continually re-enforced our love for this city, and fueled our hope that if you invest your energy, talent, & resources into creating change, that change will eventually manifest.

Check Your Six

October 18th, 2009

Check Your Six
We recently got word from the chaps at Check Your Six Clothing about their Fall/Winter 2009 lookbook. After taking a quick peek I was refreshed to see some smashing original artwork and read about some of where they’re putting their focus. It’s nice to see these guys are getting some deserved placement not only here in Minneapolis at VS but in Florida, Texas & in Illinois at St Alfred. Pretty good start if I do say so my self. Keep em comin’ gents. Holler at us if you want a hand inking up some blanks. Yeh!

Ends/Wealth Corp.

October 13th, 2009

Chicago represent! This little piece got me to thinking about the importance of being able to stand behind a product and supporting a brand because of their ideals. It’s so rare nowadays to come across something true and real enough to spend loot on, let alone support. Ends/ Wealth Corp. is a new name to me and seems to be doing a great job of keeping shit in perspective.

Chicago cats, mark your calendars for the 14th. Ends/Wealth Corp. will be officially flipping the switch of their new site with a launch party at SuperFun located at 610 N. Rush.

Infinite Now

October 3rd, 2009

infinite-now
Infinite Now is a new label that has just popped up on the radar… there’s some speculation on who the creative forces driving the brand are… my money is on Brooklyn. Pictured above is their first two releases: Crypt (T), and Veiled (B). Keep an eye on the site, hoping that who ever is behind this latest push will also connect up a twitter feed to keep us all top level?!

Ugmonk // One Year Strong

August 28th, 2009

UGMONK_1

I was greeted by a fairly inspiring email when I opened my inbox today. Jeff Sheldon Founder/Designer of Ugmonk dropped me a line with loads of new updates. He’s released a handful of new designs including a limited edition shirt celebrating Ugmonks’ one year anniversary… the image above has my personal favorites. With corporate America constantly assaulting us with their gloom messaging, I think that we should take every opportunity to celebrate the success & growth of small independently owned and operated businesses, especially those in that are thriving in the creative sector.

So I would like to publicly & personally congratulate Jeff on a solid year in business perusing work & creating a world that he is passionate about & completely invested in!

Jeff was kind enough to hook up Because We Like To readers with a little thank you for the support and encouragement he’s received from us and the creative community across the globe over the last year. Enter the promo code “WELIKETO” during check out and receive 10% off your entire purchase… expires 9/5/09.

Even if you don’t pick anything up in the Ugmonk shop… drop Jeff a line congratulating him on his efforts & successes over the last year.

Favorite Sneakers

July 1st, 2009

Lately, I’ve seen more than a handful of sneakers that I’ve quite thoroughly enjoyed and would love to eventually purchase. Take a quick look below and some of the swell footwear that is either in shops now, or soon to be released by various companies.

I find most of these gems on some super duper blogs such as Highsnobiety, Hypebeast or Sneaker Freaker. These sites cover a wide range of topics surrounding “urban” fashion, or streetwear. If you are in or around MPLS, check out VS Social Standard or Status. When I’m in Chicago, I usually hit up Saint Alfred or Leaders. When I roll through Denver, The 400 or Family Affair (Sorry if I left anyone out). These of course, aren’t the only places to read about or shop for sneakers but make me happy.

UNTITLED #20(TRIP) @ Denver Art Museum

June 10th, 2009

UNTITLED #20(TRIP) at the Denver Art Museum video re-cap courtesy of Vincent Comparetto. A month or so back I was fortunate enough to pull a few screens with Rick Griffith & Matter, John Fellows, Scot LeFavor, Markham Maes, at the UNTITLED #20(TRIP) event. We formed “The Syndicate” and printed our asses off for a few magical hours combining the mystical forces of all our powers! I’m definitely hoping to work with all these talented cats again in one way or another sooner rather than later.

Voltage – 2009 Recap

April 25th, 2009

Every year MN Fashion throws a smashing soiree showcasing some of the “hottest, dazzling fresh faces” in Minnesota fashion. Sometimes the faces aren’t so fresh and the hot is kinda cold…but overall it was a lovely night. All of the “to do” people were there doing something, someone probably found important and our elite creative cult squad was maxxin’ out VIP style just waiting to smile for the cameras. This was my first year at the event and I was more than thrilled to be able to lend my cutting edge future-carving web skills to this year’s Voltage project. For that, I am grateful and would love to think that I gave some small child in a technologically deprived part of the world, a reason to live. Either way, thanks for having us people and can’t wait to see what comes out of the bag next year!

If you want some really amazing video footage of the event click here.

Make sure to slide on over to the Voltage site for more information on this event and the people who busted their asses to make it happen.
