T-Shirts are awesome… they are quick and dirty way to get an idea or concept across and have it been seen by a large number of people. Design By Humans gives those who are interested in using the medium as a vehicle for creative expression the opportunity to do so… while making some extra loot cakes in the process…!
The breakdown is… you submit a design… which will be in the voting process for a period of 21-120 days. Once a shirt wins it is eligible to win shirt of the week and has a one in 5 chance to win. Winning designs get thrown into the running for shirt of the month for the month that it wins in.
They’ve also got some pretty sick embelishments… if you can design it, they can probably print it… gradients, appliques, embroidery, foils….. madness! Peep their site… get inspired, create an account, and rock some shit!!! Get your human on!
*| Jed from Design By Humans got in touch with me… and tipped me off concerning a little promo they are doing for all my Denver peeps out there! “We’ve set up a discount code good for 15% off for our friends in Denver. The code is “milehigh” and will be active from Dec 7th -Dec 21st.” If anyone has any questions about submitting work or the promo hit Jed up!!! His email should be working within the next week… if not sooner?

Jaime Kopke of designklub sent over a Denver design guide to Design*Sponge this morning. It’s a damn good list, especially for all the holiday shoppers this winter. Be sure to check it out here.
Another thought, What the f-ck is the deal with always using mountains to represent Denver (like Design*Sponge image above)? A. you can’t see them half the time and B. Denver actually has a skyline. Let’s show our city some love and represent it the right way. Perhaps like so:

In the midst of all of the outlandish excitement today, I came across a great little vector illustration I was working on for the Edition Magazine project. I’m not completely sure of the direction I’m going on the illustration, but have been playing with a lot of little bits and pieces to see if anything jumps out at me. As I am sure you can all assume, nothing has jumped out quite yet and I am still in my “creative process” on that whole thing. The funny thing was the little birdy and my growing infatuation for the word “poop” seemed to have a nice little connection. Not that I’m some sort of nasty little 5th grader that plays in the toilet when no one is looking, I just think it’s one of those words that has a great deal of usage in the modern world. So, to stretch my creativity, I played with the combination of the two and came to create the great little shirt idea you see here. I don’t know really, maybe I can use this for a Threadless submission or something. We’ll see what the “fans” think first, maybe it’ll just be the next Lifter Baron shirt to hit the shops.

The Denver Public Library has teamed up with two of Denver’s fashion icons The Fabric Lab and Denver Fabrics to create Frock Out! Independent Designers Challenge and Fashion Show!!!
So here’s the rundown… 12 local fashion designers were chosen to create a line of garments that were based on a variety of themes. Each designer’s entire line will be shown at the Frock Out! Fashion Show going down on December 6th at the DPL. This is definitely going to be one of the more exciting fashion shows that has been put on here in Denver, Tran has been busting her ass putting the show together. The bottom floor of the DPL is going to be transformed into a runway that spans the length of the DPL’s main floor, and I’ve got a feeling that the models are going to work every inch!!! The event is FREE but there is suggested donation of $10 at the door, which will go to help fund the DPL and Fresh City Life cultural programming.
A sneak peak of each designers line is now on view at the DPL… if you head down you won’t miss it. You can also participate in the viewers choice award, by voting online for you favorite dress… check them out in person first if you can… the photos are good… but like art you must see the dresses in person to really get the full effect. Channel 2 news is also going to do a spot on the event this Friday morning, so if you are up between 6am–8am make sure to peep it for more info, you can also contact any of the event sponsors/producers for more info.
There are a limited number of tickets available for the event, and you must have a ticket in order to guarantee your admittance into the fashion show… Tickets are only available at the Denver Public Library, The Fabric Lab, or Denver Fabrics… unless you happen to know one of the designers. The entire Because We Like To crew will be present holding shit down… come down and Frock Out! with us!!!
