Grzegorz Domaradzki‘s portfolio is full of a pretty outstanding selection of illustration work… The thing that makes it stick out so much for me is the use of pencil and Photoshop to put that sort of dreamy haze around everything. Great colorways and solid line work.

Make sure to run through the stuff on his site and on Behance for some nice detail shots.

Nick Deakin

Nick Deakin has a super solid collection of subtly textured, hand rendered illustrations of both characters and type. His minimal color pallets and slightly ironic undertone place his work high on my list of inspiration.

Mark Giglio is another great example of the ever expanding talent pool in the Bay Area.

Raccoonnook

His style is sort of reminiscent to early 90s Anime for me… in maybe, an Akira kind of way. The super saturated color pallets and the softened edges of Raccoonnook’s illustration work makes my eyes relax and my brain spasm. All great things.

Sicksystems is the side project of Aske, a Moscow based graffiti artist and designer. Over the past decade, his side project has yielded a pretty outstanding body of work and an equally motivating stack of clients: Nike, Stussy, Beautiful Decay, Computer Arts Magazine, CTRL Clothing, Montana and so on…

If there is anything inspiring about Sicksystems, it’s the fact that something that considered a side project, can blossom into a full blown business in a relatively short amount of time with the right amount of focus… plus I’m a sucker for geometrically potent work.

Inoue Takehiko piece for Gendai Art Museum

Inoue Takehiko’s entrance space project for the 井上雄彦最後のマンガ展 (Inoue Takehiko Last Manga Exhibition) at Gendai Art Museum. My humble translation of the text at the end of the film is as follows:

“I had been working from on top of the piece the whole time, and it was a strange feeling at first to see it lifted up. Since I couldn’t really see the piece as a whole from a distance, I was sure there would be places I would have to fix. But after we raised the painting up, it felt like it was something that no longer belonged to me and to put forth my brush any further would be inappropriate. Also, thinking back, during the process I never felt frustrated and in the end I unexpectedly didn’t feel like, ‘Yes, I did it!’ Thank you again for this precious experience!”

Takehiko’s exhibition is taking place in several locations here in Japan, hopefully I can make it to the one in Sendai. On a last note, I want to know what he was listening to…

Project Hello : Opening Exhibition

“PROJECT HELLO is an idea and an event intended to provide a platform for Denver creatives to get together and expose their work to their peers while also providing a context for the community at large to unite, build, and shape a supportive creative artistic community in Denver,” says PROJECT HELLO creative director Sandra Fettingis.

My wife Tran and I are both super stoked to be participating in Project Hello‘s first exhibition taking place this Saturday March 8th at the TAXI Building in Denver. Tran is putting together an ambient fashion show and I’ve got a super secret snotty zine in the works… there will be a fairly varied mix of artists showcasing work that spans across multiple mediums… I hope to see a few friendly & familiar faces in the mix.
