This is a good peek into a pretty unique moment in history and what some consider the foundation of the low brow art movement. I personally consider this era to be one of my largest unofficial inspirations as a creative person… Patti Astor along with some of the most important contemporary artists of the 20th century, took what most would regard as shit and turned it into something to aspire to. Although a lot of these people sort of embody the worst things about young people, they seem to have an uncanny ability to be some of the most influential and realistic people at the same time. Granted that’s both, a gross generalization and a uniquely romantic explanation of an entire era of young people hanging out and making cool shit to share with their friends, but honestly, what more do we need from life?

For more information, check out this small bit at <a href="http://www.at149st.com/fungallery.html"target="_blank">@149th Street and go wild on Google with some searches for people like, Keith Haring, Jean Michel Basquiat, Fab Five Freddy, Dondi, Patti Astor… etc.

Also check out a documentary called Style Wars… and a more recent documentary called The Beautiful Losers.

I honestly never thought I’d see or potentially ride a highspeed rail in the US but from the sounds of this article and so many similar ones popping up lately, we have a strong chance of this becoming reality. I must also admit that hearing that Florida (of all places) would be one of the first to receive said trains and that Texas would follow there after. What does make me smile on the inside, is how many people are not only behind such plans for tracks to be laid across the US, but how much momentum these plans are gaining thanks to the Obama administration. Undoubtedly, this will be one of the most important and crucial periods of American development in our lifetime.

The artist line up and location for <a href="http://artcrankpostershow.com/minneapolis"target="_blank">ARTCRANK 2010 have been announced for the Minneapolis event. After talking to <a href="http://www.charleskyouel.com/"target="_blank">Charles on and off over the past few months it sounds like this year is going to be a huge step up in a couple of ways. One of the most definitive of those will be in the location of the opening night. This year ARTCRANK will be held at <a href="http://www.shelter-studios.com/index.cfm"target="_blank">Shelter Studios in NE Minneapolis with about 3 times the original capacity. We’ll be seeing a slew of new faces in the show this time around as well (see below). I’m sure chiseling the list down to a reasonable size was an eronious task all by itself.

Artists include: Aaron Pumort • Aaron Shekey • Adam Brackney • Adam Turman • Aesthetic Apparatus • Allan Peters • Amy Campbell • Amy Jo • Angel Bomb • Andy Skoglund • Anthem Heart • Ben Levitz • Bjorn Christianson • Brian Hartley Sago • Briana Auel • Broken Crow • Chelsea Brink • DWITT • Elizabeth Mullen • Erik Anthony Hamline • Gregory Hubacek • Jennifer Davis • Jessica Hall Burns • Johnny Slocum • Joseph Duffy • Katherine Lamm • Kelly Munson • Lovely Mpls • Lure Design • Maranatha Wilson • Paul Gardner • Rob Angermuller • Ross Bruggink • Scott Agrimson • Scott Neff • Spencer Haugh • Tara Costello • Tonja Torgerson • Zara Gonzalez

Opening Night Party: Saturday, April 10
7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
