Great selection of multidisciplinary work from Brooklyn’s Volume One. Volume One was founded by Matt Owens, and is one part of the NYC super crew, Athletics.

The type pieces above are from the Super Street Fighter IV campaign. Part of the overarching release for the game included special spots and ads designed by 123KLAN, Cody Hudson, Dalek, Grotesk and Futura.

Levi’s Workshop in Mission

Levi’s recently opened a workshop here in the Mission that focuses on screen printing and letterpress for the public. The workshop will also be host to a selection of shows, lectures and of course… workshops to help motivate, inspire and ultimately urge creativity to ooze from your various orifices. They have a full event calendar on the site as well as a stack of examples of things you can look forward to upon your visit.

Celeste and I will be stopping tonight to check out the Rock Paper Book Show. Maybe we’ll see you there!?

This is a good peek into a pretty unique moment in history and what some consider the foundation of the low brow art movement. I personally consider this era to be one of my largest unofficial inspirations as a creative person… Patti Astor along with some of the most important contemporary artists of the 20th century, took what most would regard as shit and turned it into something to aspire to. Although a lot of these people sort of embody the worst things about young people, they seem to have an uncanny ability to be some of the most influential and realistic people at the same time. Granted that’s both, a gross generalization and a uniquely romantic explanation of an entire era of young people hanging out and making cool shit to share with their friends, but honestly, what more do we need from life?

I first learned about Process Type Foundry speak at one of last year’s Walker Art Center lectures. They brought up a lot of interesting points in relation to being a couple/team and the pros and cons of working from home; which of course resonated with me and my own work/live relationship with Celeste. Needless to say, they are crazy talented and seem like really awesome people…

The new site, packed with tasty newness, went live sometime today, with the helping hand from Minneapolis dev maestro, Mark Fox. Pop on over and check it out.

This presentation exemplifies the basic but very integral thinking that all of us should aim to accomplish in every project we commit to. It’s kind of outstanding to see such giant opportunities missed in such a large undertaking and how a seemingly simplified solution can be so valuable. I haven’t had much of a chance to look into the rest of the work that RAEL SAN FRATELLO ARCHITECTS has done but don’t doubt its in the same mode of thinking.

A Look Behind “US” Album Artwork

I don’t think there is anything more interesting than getting a peek at someone’s process or catching a glimpse at something that may have never been seen otherwise. Keith has given us a taste of both. Ironically, my mild curiosity for the album has been escalated due to this particular sneak peek and brought my appreciation for the work BLK SWAN did on this, up a notch or two. Glorious indeed.

Highspeed Rail in the US of A

I honestly never thought I’d see or potentially ride a highspeed rail in the US but from the sounds of this article and so many similar ones popping up lately, we have a strong chance of this becoming reality. I must also admit that hearing that Florida (of all places) would be one of the first to receive said trains and that Texas would follow there after. What does make me smile on the inside, is how many people are not only behind such plans for tracks to be laid across the US, but how much momentum these plans are gaining thanks to the Obama administration. Undoubtedly, this will be one of the most important and crucial periods of American development in our lifetime.

ARTCRANK 2010

The artist line up and location for ARTCRANK 2010 have been announced for the Minneapolis event. After talking to Charles on and off over the past few months it sounds like this year is going to be a huge step up in a couple of ways. One of the most definitive of those will be in the location of the opening night. This year ARTCRANK will be held at Shelter Studios in NE Minneapolis with about 3 times the original capacity. We’ll be seeing a slew of new faces in the show this time around as well (see below). I’m sure chiseling the list down to a reasonable size was an eronious task all by itself.

Legwork Studio has been whoopin aces since their somewhat recent start a year or so back. Just today they announced their progress over that period of time and to no surprise, they have acquired two new partners and updated their site with a firey hot new motion reel. These gentlemen are no doubt a great addition to the swelling Denver creative community.
