Eric Inkala at Fox Tax Gallery

Eric Inkala
Eric Inkala
Eric Inkala had a show two Fridays back at Fox Tax Gallery and as expected, we made our attempt to swing by and see what he had to share. Within the first few seconds of being inside, we noticed a higher level of presentation and warmer welcome from the gallery and the artist than any other so far. This was the first time we had been to Fox Tax or seen an Inkala exhibit and I would have to say I was super impressed. Not to sound like this was the most fantastic thing I’ve seen in my life, but Inkala handled it like a Norse Thunder God (or something whimsical like that) and Fox has an awesomtacular space. I would definitely swing by the next time your in the NE and check out his work if you have a chance.

Sign Painter Phil

I noticed that Minneapolis has a ton of old school hand painted signs, so I attempted a little research and discovered Phil Vandervoort. Wow. This man is responsible for the majority of signs here in Minneapolis! Check out his partial portfolio and this video where he takes you on a tour of his backyard. We cannot forget these people, they do brilliant work and preserving an art that’s rarely practiced.

Bastard-Ray Gamma Assassins!!!

Sevnthsin’s Ping Pong Championships start tomorrow and has gathered quite a solid line up of studios and designers. Although my Ping Pong Kung Fu is not what it used to be, I still have a couple tricks up my shorts. From a quick glance at the teams, it looks like we’ll have some competition from Pop Life, EightHourDay, Make Visual and Spunk to name a few. I haven’t gotten the quick chance to wax my rear and file my finger nails but I did make time to slap together a nifty little logo & shirt for our team. Now only if my Ping Pong reflexes can match that of my mouse hand, I might just make it through this thing alive. Bastard-Ray Gamma Assassins ATTACK!!!

Overproof Affiliates

Overproof is a small collective of artistic do-gooders here in the Twin Cities. There efforts are aimed at embracing the artistic community and bringing together artists of all sorts in order to reinforce the creative commonality we all seek to share. Whoa! Sounds pretty fuckin’ rad to me. Well now that you know that little snippet, I’ll give you all a time and place to participate. It seems that every Sunday at 8 PM they throw a little get together called Guilty Pleasures. The funness is at Jitters in the NE. Live music and drinks, cool peeps and a nice time. Get on it and don’t say we didn’t give you something to do this weekend.

Pure Pleasure

It looks like there is going to be a huge group show at the Thorp Building tonight. It looks as though there will be art from more than 15 artists. (Sample above is Greg Gossel.) We will most definitely swing by as say something clever, take a few pics, drink a PBR (please be some tasty beverage for my oral delight) say hello to some art and bye to the crowd. Meet us there, we can thumb wrestle. No website for the Thorp Building I know of, so look at the map and drive there like they did in the 80’s.

Sevnthsin

It is official, I am now on board with Sevnthsin as a Sr Designer. I am totally stoked to work with these guys and have had my eye on them since my arrival here in MPLS in March. It should be a lot of fun and a great chance to collaborate with some super talented guys. My start date is thankfully set to mid May. It’ll give me a good chance to finish up some freelance projects and rearrange my schedule. By no means does this mean I won’t continue to pursue freelance. I would love to keep some side projects flowing… Make sure to check out their site and work. I think it’s rad!

Art Shows and Stuff

So if anyone in the MPLS area reads this little thing we call our blog, make sure to swing by First Amendment Gallery tonight for “Whose Piss is This” and possibly Umber Studios for the Andy DuCett, Ric Stultz, & Michael Joseph Winslow show. We missed a couple good ones last night, but shit, we can’t be everywhere all of the time. We’ll make sure to get pics tonight to show all of the slack asses what they missed.

Failing to mention…

I forgot to mention this interview from Grain Edit. Mike Davis, one of masterminds behind Burlesque, gets his brain picked.
