My How Times Have Changed
“Dislocation in time, time signatures, time as a philosophical concept, and slavery to time are some of the themes touched upon in this nine-minute, experimental film, which was written, directed, and produced by Jim Henson-and starred Jim Henson! Screened for the first time at the Museum of Modern Art in May of 1965, Time Piece enjoyed an eighteen-month run at one Manhattan movie theater and was nominated for an Academy Award for outstanding short subject.”
This I can get down with.
New Books

I’m not much for spending money on whatever, but when I see a good pair of sneakers or a book, it’s coming home with me. On my recent trip to Seattle / Portland I came across a multitude of options for both, sneakers and books resulting in a couple purchases here and there.
Pictured above left to right:
The Early Bird – The Art and Design of Morning Breath
Save my Life – Cody Hudson
(Both from Fifty 24SF Gallery in the Seattle Upper Playground shop)
(A zine by Jolby, grabbed at The Grass Hut in Portland)
Faesthetic #7
Nobrow Magazine no.1 – Gods & Monsters
EDTN. Magazine
(Also from Floating World Comics in Portland)
All of these are super good and have a wide array of artists and participants inside. Make sure to take a peek if you see any of them.
On a somewhat related side note, YWFT is having a huge sale on their book selection and some of these can be found there if you move like lightning.
Stefan Lucut

Surprisingly, I’ve never brought Stefan’s work up on BWLT. I’ve always been a huge fan of his work and watched him grow and get more and more wild with his type and illustration work. Just this morning I caught a quirky email from him regarding his new site, which happens to be filled up with a wide array of new pieces to share.
And in the words of the man himself, “If you feel like sharing please help me with this if not recycle and get over it.” Love it.

The Hoffman Brothers – Nike spot
Loving this new Nike spot directed by the Hoffman Brothers for the release of Paul Rodriguez’s shoe design. Clean, simple, well shot, well edited, bleached. Nice to see from such a huge brand.

Melbourne Rebrands

The idea of branding a city has always been an interesting concept to me. Sure, it makes sense, but so rarely are they ever used in a way that reflects the nature of a brand or an ideal. Usually these shitty “logos’ are used as nothing more than a header on letterhead and occasionally tossed onto a city vehicle. From the looks of it, this Melbourne rebranding shines a bright new light to the concept of designing an experience and embarrassing an ideal to reflect onto people as a sort of ambition or milestone for achievement. Hopefully this will become something of a regularity in the future.
Hop on over to the Brand New blog for a closer look at the project and additional info.
Ghostly Discovery App

Ghostly International takes a good stab at the future of personalized music experience through a new mobile application. Location based experiences, flash augmented reality and a handful of other delightful tricks are soon to change the way we think of brands and services… seriously. And if they aren’t attempting to change interaction, service or experience, then they won’t be around very much longer anyway. Find out more about their app here.
Pink Hobo – The Art of Yo Gabba Gabba Recap
Celeste and I took a quick adventure across the Mississippi to the NE side of Minneapolis to check out what the gentle people of Pink Hobo had up their sleeves this time. The venue has had some really great shows and there was no doubt that this one would have some interesting things to check peruse. We didn’t have much time to stick around and hi-five or slap ass, so we popped in, took some flicks, winked at the DJ and sneaked out the back. We had a 9:15 appointment to catch MOON so our mission was succinct. (Awesome by the way.) If you haven’t, make sure to pop in and take a peek for yourself. It’s most definitely worth a visit.
Favorite Sneakers
Lately, I’ve seen more than a handful of sneakers that I’ve quite thoroughly enjoyed and would love to eventually purchase. Take a quick look below and some of the swell footwear that is either in shops now, or soon to be released by various companies.

Clae – Russell (above)

Nike – Holiday 2009 Sweet Classic Low (above)

Creative Recreation – DiCoco in Black Patent (above)

Nike - Terminator Hi Jersey (above)

Nike – Summer 2009 Dunk Hi Splatter (above)

Nike – AM1 Hold Tight (above)
I find most of these gems on some super duper blogs such as Highsnobiety, Hypebeast or Sneaker Freaker. These sites cover a wide range of topics surrounding “urban” fashion, or streetwear. If you are in or around MPLS, check out VS Social Standard or Status. When I’m in Chicago, I usually hit up Saint Alfred or Leaders. When I roll through Denver, The 400 or Family Affair (Sorry if I left anyone out). These of course, aren’t the only places to read about or shop for sneakers but make me happy.
Beautiful/Decay Book 1: Supernaturalism
Beautiful/Decay is releasing a 164 page magazine called Supernaturalism featuring a pretty outstanding line up of artists from all over planet Earth. The book will be in a limited run of 1500, hand numbered and including the work of one of our favorite Minneapolis illustrators, TheWorkSteady aka Colin Strandberg. Keep your eyes peeled, it should be up for grabs quite soon.
