Hesh Johnson Photography

Hesh Johnson has an adept ability to capture the raw energy, emotion and grit of a moment in a single frame. An ability tuned growing up in the working class Irish-American neighborhood ‘Southie’ in Boston. It is this environment that instilled a work ethic and empathy that is carried forward in his photography, systemically in output and approach. Shuffling through his book you will see Hesh’s real life experiences, frustrations, joys, hopes, and ambitions interwoven into the body of work he has diligently collected and captured over his career. A recent transplant to Denver, I’m very honored to have worked by his side in the past and extremely excited to have him now residing in Denver. I look forward to collaborating with him in one way or another sooner. Above are a few of my favorite images picked from his recently updated book, view more of Hesh’s work via his website.
San Francisco – The Move

It’s official! Celeste and I are moving to San Francisco in May. We will be selling everything that we can’t fit in a pod and taking off in search of adventurous life-changing mischief. We will more than likely be having some sort of “Minneapolis, Good Bye” event/drinks/food push off before we leave, so check your emails and Twitters for information on that.
We’ll also be stopping in Denver for a week on the way, to see friends and family and cause some ruckus. Stay posted for additional updates in the mean time.
My Como
I just recently returned home from a short break in Lake Como, Italy and thought I’d share a few shots I took along the way.
The Interview Project
First off I’d just like to thank Josh for his kind introduction and invitation to contribute to BWLT. Looking forward to sharing some of what influences, inspires and makes me glad I didn’t choose a career I’d have to wear a suit to everyday.
First up, something that may/may not be a little left field. The Interview Project is something I’ve recently stumbled upon from famed director David Lynch and documents a 70 day, 20,000 mile road trip across the US (and back). Along the way people have been found, filmed, interviewed and their stories briefly told. My personal love of road trips initially drew me to this but the twisting roadmap of lives lived is what’s going to keep me going back.
Saying Goodbye to 2008 – Denver Xmas Break
Celeste and I made our way out to Colorado for our holiday break. We were there for about two weeks and a saw a lot of people, family, friend & foe. Unfortunately we didn’t meet up with all the peoples we aimed to, but overall I think we had a ton of fun! A very big thank you goes out to Tran & Josh for hooking us up with the room and all the great swag! The photos are mainly of a night in Boulder hanging out with the C13 crew (Todd, Lucian, Alex & Augustina) Eva & Anthony made some time for us too. The rest are of the New Years pre-party thing and then at HiDive to see Bunny Rabbit, which was awesome to the maximus.
CHI Town Chillin’
We Like To coming to a hood near you! First up, Chicago. Anyone else along for the ride? Places to see, people to meet?
Chicago Recap Pt. 1

Last weekend Celeste and I spent 3 days in our favorite place, Chicago. We had an opportunity to meet up with our close friend Todd from C13/JoyEngine to do some top secret plotting and scheming. It was the first time we had been there with someone who was familiar with the city and gave us a bit more time to just sort of relax and enjoy what Chicago has to offer. We hit all of the dope little boutiques in Wicker Park, shopped a bit on Michigan Ave, hit up Rotofugi and ate some of the tastiest food I’ve had in a long time. Although it was only a three day adventure, our 6 hour drive back and forth, seemed effortless. Our last day there was spent wondering side streets, soaking up the Lake Michigan breeze and perusing the Jeff Koons exhibit at the MCA. In the end, it was sad to leave Todd and the wonderful city of Chicago yet again, but let it be known that slowly but surely, it will be our home. Stay tuned for part 2 with more photos, more sneaky diabolical dealings and tales of our narrow escape from death’s greasy grip!
P.S. Check out Todd’s post on JE about his recollection of of the trip.
San Francisco : Part 1

My family and I have been doing a little R&R (Research & Reconnaissance) in San Francisco over the Past week. I was hoping to have this first installation posted sooner, but we’ve been jamming as much as possible into each day… and have been doing a pretty good job of covering the city… especially considering we are rolling 5 deep and using Mass transit to get from spot to spot.
{A:} For the first part of our trip we were staying in Chinatown. The City is super dense, alleys are used as streets, which makes exploring almost endless. {B:} My posse and I holding it down in the Lobby of Hotel Des Arts. {C:} Pretty self explanatory. {D:} A super fresh two color toss up I spotted on a rooftop in Chinatown… ribbit! {E:} Each floor of Hotel Des Arts is lined with artwork… turning each floor into a mini gallery… we spent a night just walking through the hotel peeping all of the dope ass art! {F:} Close up of a Misk One piece. {G:} Chinese Free Masons… who knew? I spotted this sign on the second story in an alley cruising through Chinatown… secret society type ish!!! {H:} Eye Peeper on the door leading into the Buff Monster room. {I:} I don’t know the name of this artist, but this is another piece hanging up in the halls of Hotel Des Arts. {J:} Obey paste up spotted on the rooftop just outside of Chinatown. {K:} Noah and I throwing down some of the tastiest Vietnamese food I’ve ever had in my life… Outside of Trans’ Moms’ house. I got burnt up on our trek… if you look closely you can see that I’m now rocking permanent sunglasses!
