Recently, UK artist, Eine made his way to San Francisco for a solo exhibition at White Walls Gallery. During his stay in the city, he covered the streets with his type murals and sayings. Check out what he had to say about his come up, and his time in SF.

Rosario Florio‘s work has a kind of dry fun to it, that I find interesting. It fits into a very form based, design-thinking that I’ve grown increasingly fond of over the years. I’ve sort of unintentionally learned to embrace it within my own work, without any clear indication of why… Regardless, Rosario’s collection of projects possess a certain quality, that I’ve come to thoroughly enjoy, in Design, as of late; specifically her FWD Grotesk typeface.

Gianmarco Magnani‘s work could be more easily defined as design, than illustration. His tight use of color and white space coupled with a keen eye for typography, give his prints a certain level of intelligence that I enjoy quite a bit.

Young Jerks is the portfolio of Brooklyn designer/illustrator, Dan Cassaro. His playful, but smart collection of projects is filled with custom typography, illustration and hand printed materials; all of which, make for a very honest and refreshing body of work.

Although I’ve always appreciated it, hand drawn type hasn’t always been a huge inspiration. I’m definitely more of a Swiss-minded designer—tight grids, clean lines and sharp typography. Jon Contino‘s work on the other hand, is obviously none of those, and in a short time, has become a pretty big influence on my growing interest with hand drawn type and lettering. His work spans an entire spectrum, but focuses heavily on a sort of Sailor Jerry aesthetic as well as the traditional hand drawn type of the early 20th century, both of which have an extremely unique and nostalgic appeal that are hard to ignore.

Although it might not show in my work, Morning Breath has always been a huge inspiration. They’ve had me since my first years of school and helped define my personal sense of design through their typography laden compositions, and the low-brow subject material often used in their projects. Their work represents something raw and human that, before seeing anything like it, was something I felt lacked in the creative field I planned to go into. The idea of doing commercial work that didn’t look commercial in any way and collaborating with the types of clients they were — skateboards companies and bands — wasn’t something I could have ever learned in school and was a huge motivational element for me.

Telephoneme is a hybrid live-action / animated piece created by MK12 in collaboration with Swedish Secrets Productions. Inspired by 1960s educational films and taking cues from one in particular The Alphabet Conspiracy. MK12′s Telephoneme uses a slightly darker remixed version of the movie’s original soundtrack as the underlying foundation for the entire animated piece. Production notes and a free type face or two are all available for those willing to do a little digging.
