PRESSED : An Exhibition of Letterpress Printed Ephemera

Above our a few snapshots I was able to sneak from within the PRESSED : Exhibition of Letterpress Printed Ephemera storefront located in the Denver Pavilions. The store is an extension of the show that took place in June at the Denver Art Museum and gives all that make their way through an opportunity to view some of the prints from the Hatch Show Print, Amos Paul Kennedy Jr, the Hamilton 10th Anniversary Show, Yee-Haw Industries, and a curated selection of other posters submitted to the exhibit. There are a handful of posters available for purchase mixed in with others for display, inquire with staff for any questions between the two.

PRESSED is slated to fill space in the Denver Pavilions through July 4th, when the posters will be taken down, packed, and prepped to hit the road as part of an ongoing traveling exhibit.

Type Inspiration

I’ve been thinking about typography a lot more than I generally do. A lot of it probably stems from my supreme hatred of the font browser options there are for designers and the lack of legitimate resources on fonts and classifications. I’m sure there are plenty of arguing points against that statement, but it’s got me to a point where I’ve become slightly obsessed with organization of these resources through my various online accounts and scribbled in notes strewn all over the place. Point being, I feel like it’s part of my goal as an internet crazed angry person, to do a better job at sharing some of those resources (the few there are) that have taken a step towards organizing bits of information —in this case, typography.

Some of my recent favorites for type inspiration as well as film related resources have been Annayas and Hammer Horror Posters for obvious reasons (I hope). I’ve always been a giant fan of cinema in it’s many forms and regarded it as one of most under appreciated art forms of all.

Cypher13 just announced the release of a new font for sale on the You Work For Them site. Word has it that there may be a few more exemplary releases on the horizon from these Boulder lads. Stay tuned for more.

Six Pixels of Death

6 Pixels Of Death is a new pixel based typeface that was created by our friends over at cypher13. The typeface was developed for screen based design and though there are a handful of pixel based typefaces that already exsist, after a bit of experimenting with a beta version… I’m extremely surprised by this face’s versatility. Most pixel based fonts blow out below or above a few sizes, I’ve been shocked/pleased with how this typeface scales within slight adjustments, almost sharpening & morphing a bit… just outside it’s perfect pixel size.

More info to come in another post as soon as the typeface is released by cypher13 and made available to the public.

C86 / Matt Lyon

Matt Lyon is a UK based graphic designer/artist who produces work under the name C86. He is one among a handful designers/illustrators that I have ran across recently and have been cyber stalking via twitter. I find Matt’s work super inspiring, he has a looser style that feels a bit more organic and hand crafted, the hardest part about compiling this particular post is fighting the urge to put up a good portion of his creative output. Matt has been a continous contributor up on threadless, and was recently featured in Digital Arts magazine, he’s won several awards, and has been recognized by notable design publications, he brings a wide range of shapes and surfaces to life with his work, but no matter what the medium, from the outside looking in it seems he just enjoys the fact that he is able to be creative for a living. Below is a brief collection of work from the C86 website that I feel embodies exactly that.

Filmstock Commemorative Poster

Having recently taken the jump into the wonderful world of freelancing my posts have become somewhat slack (for which I apologize in advance). However, I have just finished up on one of my first commissions for friends who run the Filmstock International Film Festival, Luton, UK. It’s a limited edition screen printed poster commemorating 10 years of the festival which is running from the 5th – 15th November. If you’re in the area be sure to check it out :)
