This video promotes violence against women.

Way to marshal every tool at your disposal, Jeremie Perin – video game nostalgia, whatever bit animation, and popular music – to make an ideology of violence seem cool to a whole brotherhood of boys and men world wide who now collaborate in your sanctioning of misogyny.

Rape is a being used as a weapon of war in the democratic republic of congo, and violence against women was declared by UN leader Kofi Annan as one of the most pervasive and shameful human rights violations in the world today.

You have just contributed to that force, and everyone who posts this video.

This is tremendously offensive, and not even in a humorous or intelligent way, like what South Park or the Family Guy would do. There is no commentary or analysis, no critique at all. It’s a celebration instead of all the deplorable characteristics of sexist violence that society reinforces day after day.

I agree very much with “under empire.” Efforts to make humour out of rape are worse than counter-productive, they are destructive. Rape is a weapon of war being used in more places than the Congo – it is a weapon of patriarchy designed to keep women out of what has historically been spaces restricted to men only. Spaces of equal dignity, respect, opportunity, and rights.

If viewers/makers of this stuff don’t see the political implications of perpetuating this destructive crap, it isn’t because you don’t care or have different interests and aren’t political. You are political, we are all political, and you are thus implicated in this process. Being ignorant or stupid is simply not a suitable excuse.

    Really?
This is degrading for everybody who is actually represented, including truckers.
Live a little outside of your head and you’ll realize how offensive this is, even if you posted it to get more people to read your stuff.
    No excuse.

  • 4. disgusted  |  December 2nd, 2009 at 2:26 pm

this is very disturbing. while you may think its ‘fun and harmlessl’ to see women sexually exploited, raped, and mangled in this cartoon video game…what impact do you think it has on young boys and girls who might play these games and view these images/stereotypes/forms of violence on a daily basis?

  • 5. Erin Graham  |  December 2nd, 2009 at 3:53 pm

This isn’t exciting, it’s appalling. You have managed to reveal the depth of your deep hatred and fear of women, and indeed of your own humanity. Really. Just because you “like to” does not mean it is useful or good to engage in such vile fantasies. stop it. I don’t know you, but I figure you deserve better than to live in such fear and hatred. And I am absolutely sure that women deserve better from you.

I’m going to go have a hot shower now. blech.

  • 6. grow up, dolt  |  December 2nd, 2009 at 4:24 pm

you are a fucking idiot and you should educate yourself on how harmful your ridiculous individualist antics are to women. fuck you.

  • 7. JJ  |  December 2nd, 2009 at 5:09 pm

It’s a music video people.. Animated also, so really, if there’s any problem here it’s that some people can’t separate real life and real expectations from animated humor.

Sorry to say it, but it’s the people posting negative comments that are being childish. If you don’t like something don’t watch it, and don’t share it.

It’s your responsibility to effect what you and/or your children consume. Stop expecting everyone who has a sense of humor to lose it because you don’t monitor the media you or your children are consuming.

I find lots of things offensive, and I save myself the stress by avoiding watching, reading, or listening to those things. Start by taking responsibility for what you consume, and stop taking responsibility for what people produce. You can have total control over one of those two things, and as an adult you can probably guess it in one try.

If you can focus on that, the world would be a better place.

P.S. I know I’m doing the same thing by posting this, but come on.. think for a moment.

  • 8. LulaMae  |  December 2nd, 2009 at 7:03 pm

JJ, everybody has a responsibility to not propagate or glorify discriminatory violence. Merely creating or condoning this kind of work is socially harmful, I doubt you would be saying the same thing about a racist violent game.

  • 9. Tim  |  December 3rd, 2009 at 4:08 am

No, there is no responsibility to propagate or NOT propagate anything. Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing.

If you believe this video is responsible for anyone raping anyone you are a fucking idiot.

    Cheers.

  • 10. LulaMae  |  December 3rd, 2009 at 12:06 pm

You know what’s not a beautiful thing? Hate speech.

Perhaps this is not responsible for anyone raping directly but it trivializes a very serious problem.

If you think that the vague concept of ‘freedom of speech’, which by the way has always been used as an excuse by people in positions of power to further oppression, is more important than ending endemic violence then you are a fucking idiot.

  • 11. Erin Graham  |  December 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Likely it is pointless to offer further comment, but I am a pathological optimist. Some small part of me believes that JJ wants to realize his human potential, and really, deep down, does not wish to subjugate and terrorize the women in his life by proliferating hateful speech, media, graphics, and so forth. So, one last thing, JJ. your ‘freedom of speech’ violates mine. this video of which you are so proud advocates acts of terror upon women. it promotes the idea that running a truck into a van full of young women is exciting, that raping and mutilating women is ‘harmless fun’. If you can dream it, you can do it. I don’t want to be part of your nightmare. Come on, JJ. Wake up. I’ll give ya some advice–when you find yourself being so defensive, stop for a moment and consider what you are defending.

    okay. that’s it from me.

  • 12. Erin Graham  |  December 3rd, 2009 at 5:49 pm

and Tim. And of course, the trembling, scared little man that Jeremie Perin must be…him too. dare to reach for liberation.

  • 13. JJ  |  December 3rd, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Erin, I’m not being defensive, I didn’t create it, and I couldn’t care less about it. I for one can decern the difference between legitimate and insidious dehumanizing of anyone, be it the gay community, women, and minorities.

Let me break down the argument a bit, because you’re straying too far from the point I’m actually trying to make. I know this point likely won’t ever solidify in your mind because you’ve drawn a line that I’m clearly on the wrong side of — which is sad, because I’m making a legitimate point that you should hear. Take a moment and assume I’m on the same side of the line as you, but that a small belief makes me see it differently, maybe it’ll make it easier to understand my point. I don’t disagree with you about how society degrades women and so forth, but I do disagree with your methodologies.

    > your ‘freedom of speech’ violates mine
that’s not actually true.. but the great thing is that we can both share our opinions.. the important bit of the whole process is that each person can, and should take something away from it instead of shutting down and not listening. I for one hear your point, I think you’re slightly misguided for thinking this is worthy of attack however. Look at the WWE, or whatever those wrestling media companies are calling themselves this year.. they do way worse, and are in fact more insidious.

    > Come on, JJ. Wake up. I’ll give ya some advice–when you
    > find yourself being so defensive, stop for a moment and
    > consider what you are defending.
Well, I’ve been mostly polite, right? I’m not defending anything. I’m trying to tell you that you’re misguided and naive. You also say that you don’t want to be part of “my nightmare”. That’s good, we don’t have to share anything or agree on anything, however we most likely agree on many points — we aren’t far off.

But you’re silly if you think this is what causes bad things in the world.

  • 14. david boone  |  December 5th, 2009 at 3:27 am

are you people kidding me. this is a fucking music video and it is hilarious (entertainment). get a damn grip on yourselves and spend your energy elsewhere (energy here because it is POSITIVE, WAY TO MAKE SOME LAUGHS! I DIG!)

    cheers,

    get a life haters

  • 15. Lifter Baron  |  December 5th, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Apparently there are a lot of people from Vancouver associated with Shaw Communications that feel pretty violated by this. (Unless of course it’s some sort of strange dynamic IP spammer person)

If you feel so strongly against the bad things that happen to people, namely women, and under the circumstance of rape — no matter the reasoning — and this, of all places, is where you end up barking your factoids and obvious partisan ideals against creative interpretation, you are pathetic.

If you care so much, go put out a fire. Fight something real. Send a letter to your senator or congress person about this shit that happens in Congo.

And yes, you enlightened few, this is just a music video, and it is just a cartoon. It’s not being forced or directed towards any one certain person or group and commits no offense other than speaking freely.

    Art is wonderful.

  • 16. Wh33lhop  |  December 8th, 2009 at 2:46 am

    Holy shit.

For all the whiners who have just commented, I’ll spell this out for you.

It’s an 8 bit, cartoon music video portraying a trucker’s adventure.

If you seriously believe anybody worth a damn is going to watch this video and come out of it with different values than they went in, you are a complete and utter moron.

It’s a fucking joke. The only people who will take it seriously are the same type of people who are stupid enough to point out the blatant misogyny that the video “attempts to propagate.”

Do you watch the video and think “wow, I wish I could stick a pump up my ass so I could eat people and shit out moving legs”?
Do you wish you could grow a gigantic penis so you could ejaculate on your own face?
    Why not?

That’s right, because it’s all completely fucking ridiculous. Get the fuck off your high horses and stop pointing out the obvious, you’re missing out on the humor.

    We’re all preachy assholes! Hooray!

  • 18. lolocaust  |  December 8th, 2009 at 5:57 pm

This is the most fantastic thing I’ve seen on the internet, ever.

Oh, and yeah, it’s pretty obvious most (all?) of the preachy posts are by the same person. They’re all in the exact same writing style. Hearing they’re all from the same IP address just proves the point.

  • 19. Fab  |  December 9th, 2009 at 11:57 am

If a cartoon makes you want to rape someone, you are an asshole. If anything makes you want to rape someone, you are an asshole. If you can’t take a joke, you are an asshole. If you think censorship is ever a solution, you are an asshole.

    See ya later assholes.

This is amazing, one of the best things I’ve seen. Love the song too.

P.s. if you’re easily offended, maybe the internet isn’t the place for you?

    Seriously its nearly all pornography.

probably i’m fuking late for this conversation but people please, every day you see T.V. and everyone is murdering for fun in the movies and is wonderfull evry now and then there is a girl in the t.v. shows with some provocative clotes or all your fancy magazines and now start thinking what about that and critizicing what you donth have control of seeng because these people are everywere for god sake this video is not more than another fkn piece of art. a study for the human behavior. stop blaiming yourselves for liking the video.

  • 24. This Guy  |  December 21st, 2009 at 8:58 pm

One thing is for sure, it is very polarizing. And I give it kudos for this!

I hope the people who hate it and the people who love it can all agree on one thing.. IT IS BAD ASS and BAD, ASS at the same time.

One thing I learned from our friend Voltaire. Even if I do not like what you say, I will defend, to the death, your right to say it.

Merci Voltair, Merci and Thank you for posting..

  • 25. Ida  |  December 29th, 2009 at 1:51 pm

I dont think it makes the idea any cuter or nicer that its funny cartoon with funny music. If I understood right there are man raped also, why doesnt anyone have a need to defend them? It would be interesting to see sex of everyone who has commented this. I would like to meet Jeremie Perin, I appreciate that he has done something that makes some conversation up. Still I do think this is offencive to every stereotypes on it, including truckers. And I dont see any particularly funny joke on it, its not so cleverly made. Yes rape rape violence bla bla bla, arent we allready numb?

  • 26. Lifter Baron  |  January 8th, 2010 at 11:57 am

I dont know about the rest of you, but it look like the trucker was the one taken advantage of here? The woman seemed to have schemed against him and got even pretty well in the end… She just wanted to get her nut off.

Ida, its funny that you want to see everyone who posted on this have sex? Also, lets be totally fuckin serious, making fun of stereotypes is WHAT COMEDY IS. No matter what you like.. comedy is a portrayal of a serious situation in an exaggerated and ridiculous way.

PS Thanks for all the traffic humans!

  • 27. The Doctor  |  January 21st, 2010 at 8:03 am

I agree with Baron on one thing. People who hate rape, as I do, should be out there fighting the REAL problem instead of fighting one cartoon out there.

Most people think it’s a few trench-coated sickos in America doing most of the rapes, and don’t realize over 30% of our women are sexually abused before getting to 18, MOST of them by a family member or close friend of the family. Quit complaining about a cartoon and go fight the real problem!

  • 28. really?  |  January 21st, 2010 at 9:06 pm

seriously? i’m OFFENDED that there are this many people complaining about this video- anyone with any appreciation for art would see just how much effort and attention to detail went into making this video… this is art made with the intent to shock and entertain- and it does both… and anyone who thinks this encourages rape or demeaning women, etc, obviously should not be going anywhere near art… this is akin to saying that watching Schindler’s List promotes anti-semitism, or that watching batman promotes vigilante justice… this video isn’t targeted towards young, impressionable kids(and weak-minded adults) because it’s not meant for them. if you’re that mindless that you’d do everything that a video or a television show tells you to do, well, shouldn’t you be watching glenn beck right now instead of being on the internet?

  • 29. Boop  |  January 22nd, 2010 at 6:50 pm

“80% of women kiss with their eyes closed…” said a comic,

“… which is way it’s often so hard to identify a rapist”

the dude who said, “making fun of stereotypes is WHAT COMEDY IS. No matter what you like.. comedy is a portrayal of a serious situation in an exaggerated and ridiculous way” said it best.

If you were offended by this then fuck the internet, you shouldn’t even go outdoors.
